Welcome Mike!

With the new year comes some change to our Massage Therapist staff. Unfortunately, we are saying good-bye to Monica, who will be leaving us at the end of January. We wish the best to her as she pursues her Bachelor’s in Business Management!

We are also welcoming a new Massage Therapist, Mike, at the end of the month! Mike has been practicing massage therapy for over five years and is well versed in the varying types of massages. Because of his love of bodywork,  Mike feel that his massage skills, previous work and life experience and personality will be an excellent addition to the Body Logic team. Mike describes himself as being a tireless advocate of the Holistic mindset in all aspects of my life, which translates wonderfully through his very present and intentional bodywork. Mike’s goals are to provide our clients with relaxation and pain management through  exceptional therapeutic and/or clinical massage using various modalities to facilitate a stress and pain relieving experience.

Healthy Habits for the New Year

With the new year comes the opportunity for a fresh start. For many people, this means making “New Year’s Resolutions” like loosing weight, exercising more, cutting down on debit, quitting bad habits (ie smoking), and leading a healthier lifestyle in general. Below are some tips to help keep you on track:

canstockphoto476513Have a Plan :
If you were to go on a long road trip, you wouldn’t just jump in the car and go. If you did, you’d arrive hungry, tired, and fatigued. That’s the same way you’d feel if you jumped into a whole new lifestyle with no planning. Before January 1st arrives, outline the changes you want to implement and decide how you’ll fit them into your schedule. Keep in mind that it may be best to take steps rather than tackle everything at once.

Make Goals: Goals help measure progress. If you don’t know where you want to end up, you won’t really know how to get there. When making your goals, you need to make SMART goals:

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Attainable
  • Realistic
  • Timely

For example, a SMART goal would be something like, “I will walk for 15 minutes 3 days for one week.” Or, “I will prepare one new healthy recipe each week for the month of January.”

Track What You Eat

Looking closely at what you eat is often an eye-opening experience. You don’t have to do it for the rest of your life, but it is a great habit to start. Tracking will help you tweak your diet so that you can still enjoy foods you love without sabotaging your weight loss or healthy eating efforts.

Fill Up on Vegetables

Vegetables are filled with nutrients, water, fiber, and very few calories. If you fill half of your plate with vegetables, you’ll get fuller faster and cut down your calories without feeling deprived. Use herbs and spices to jazz up vegetables instead of using butter and/or salt to flavor them. You can also try going vegetarian once a week. Making a meal focused on veggies is not only good for you but

In order to burn calories at a faster rate and build a healthy body, you’ll need to incorporate exercise into your life. Take it slow at first, and then increase your time and/or intensity once you feel comfortable. If you haven’t exercised in a while, talk to your doctor to make sure that you are healthy enough to begin an exercise plan.

Be Gentle With Yourself

If you fall back into old patterns, instead of berating yourself, be grateful that you noticed. Wanting to change is the first step, so have gratitude that you recognize there is change to be made. If you fall off the horse, get back on and try again.

New Year’s Resolution: Less Back Pain!

New Year’s Resolution: Less Back Pain!

A lot of people start off the New Year by making a resolution, setting a goal to improve themselves as a person in one way or another.  Some of the most common of these goals include exercising more, losing weight, and eating healthier.  We all know we should do these things, but do we know why?

Increased body weight significantly affects the risk of experiencing lower back pain.  The more weight you gain, the higher your risk of debilitating back pain.  Having a BMI (Body Mass Index) rating of overweight increases the prevalence of pain by 20%, and a BMI assessed as obese can triple the odds of having back pain.  But there is good news!  Losing just 4 lbs of weight decreases the pressure on your back by an equivalent of 16 lbs!  So, even a small amount of weight loss can have a huge impact on the health of your spine.

According to the World Health Organization, 60-70% of the global population will suffer from lower back pain.  It is the cause of 149 million sick days per year in the United States, accounting for an estimated $100-200 billion in economic impact due to lost wages and lowered productivity. 2

Don’t let your back pain disrupt your life or your budget like that.  Thankfully, with minimal effort, you can control your relative risk of back pain by shedding a few pounds– something most of us want to try to do anyways!  If you needed a little extra motivation to get started, I hope these statistics did the trick.

Unfortunately, not all of our work and family schedules allow for us to be as active as we would like to be.  Not everybody get to the gym for an hour a day several days a weekLittle lifestyle changes during everyday activities can help to supplement time at the gym.  Consider taking the stairs instead of the elevator.  Park a little further away from the door.  Walk across the office to speak to a coworker instead of emailing them.  Get creative and turn mundane tasks into a mini-workout and have some fun with your day!

Another easy way to help your weight loss goals is adapting the way you eat.  Choosing more nutrient dense foods, even without changing your portion sizes, can lead to weight loss that stays off and will significantly improve your overall health.  Again, sometimes that is easier said than done.  An excellent way of kick-starting a healthier approach to food is the Purification Program from Standard Process.  Many of our patients, and even Dr. Amanda herself, have experienced firsthand what this program can do to improve numerous aspects of your life and health.  Click here for more information on the program, and talk to the staff at Body Logic about how to get started on a healthier, happier New Year!

The Purification Program: Expose Your Body to a Healthy Lifestyle

The transition into the New Year is a time for reflection… often resulting in looking in the mirror and not liking what you see!  I challenge all of you, tall and small, fat and thin, male and female, to look in that mirror with a different eye.  It’s not all about how you look, It’s all about how you feel!  Your outward appearance can give insight to your health, but there’s a lot more happening on the inside that we should focus on.

Do you experience any of these symptoms on a daily basis?

  • A stuffy feeling in the head
  • Fatigue and difficulty sleeping
  • Indigestion and other temporary gastrointestinal upset
  • Food cravings and weight gain
  • Reduced mental clarity
  • Low libido
  • Skin that’s “not looking its best”

The above symptoms are associated with toxic buildup in the body, and this is the short list!  These symptoms, and others, are common complaints that our patients and clients experience.  If you’re unsure if toxins are having an affect your life, fill out this quick questionnaire and take a look on the inside.  If you feel overwhelmed by your answers, do not worry… we’re here to help!

The Purification Program can help you cleanse the body of the toxic buildup and improve the body’s natural ability to detoxify itself.  The program is not strictly a cleanse diet but rather a structured program that includes:

  • Eating whole foods
  • Supplements
  • Nutritious supplement shakes
  • Light exercise
  • Adequate water intake

You’ll notice that some of the results below describe not only how you feel, but how you look.  It’s a win-win!  Not only do you feel better from the inside, you see the results on the outside.

  • Improved weight management
  • Increased energy and vitality
  • Better digestion
  • Less bloating
  • Clearer skin
  • Better sleep
  • Clearer thinking
  • Better management of challenges related to natural toxin load in the body

At Body Logic, we are promoting the Purification Program through the month of January by offering a discounted price.  If you are interested in exposing your body to a healthier lifestyle and changing how you feel, stop by the office today and ask!!
