Healthy Kids and Healthy Spines

In Virginia Beach, there are a wide-range of scenarios our young families are facing as we embark on a new school year.  Regardless of the scenario your family faces, we want to educate you about ways you can support your child’s health through the spine.  It truly is the backbone of the body- providing structural support and housing the nervous system.  Keeping a healthy spine supports a healthy body, something we’re all striving for more than ever before!

Minimize screen time!

Although a funny term, did you know “text neck” is a real thing?!  Check out this graphic and see how even the slightest flexion of the neck can challenge the body.  Whether working on a Chromebook or looking at a phone, prolonged cervical flexion is not healthy for the spine.  Encourage taking breaks from the screen as frequently as possible (every 20 minutes for our young children).  The break should include getting out of the chair, stretching arms overhead and looking up at the sky, and taking 3-5 deep breaths.  Walking around for 5 minutes helps increase blood flow and wake the body up for more learning.

Move… in the morning AND the afternoon!

Did you know moving is a key component of learning??  Research has found that exercise improves both behavior and academic performance.  And this doesn’t just apply to children!

We appreciate and understand the challenges parents face trying to balance working from home and helping kids in the virtual classroom.  Incorporating physical activity for at least 30 minutes in the morning AND the afternoon can lead to a much happier household.  No need to be a full blown drill sergeant, simply allow for running, jumping, and being loud!  Kids needs to let that pent up energy out… or it shows up as poor attention spans or bad behavior.

Stretch as a family!

Do you ever feel general body aches and soreness after a long day of… sitting??  Children experience the same thing, sometimes on an even greater scale!  Sitting promotes the body to develop poor postural habits that result in tight muscles.  For children, add the growing factor on top of a sedentary day and you’re setting the stage for a long night of aches and pains.  As the bones grow longer, the muscles can’t keep up.  The muscles then pull on the bones creating those horrible “growing pains.”

Stretching is the answer!  Developing a healthy stretching routine at an early age can lead to healthier long-term lifestyle habits.  Join the kids and make stretching a fun, family event.  You need it too!

Drink water!

Do you know if your child is drinking enough water?  Below is a quick breakdown of how much water children should consume according to WebMD:

  • 2-4 years old: 2-4 cups (16- 32 oz)
  • 4-8 years old: 5-6 cups (32- 40 oz)
  • 9-13 years old: 7-8 cups (56-64 oz)
  • 14 and up: 8-11 cups (64- 88 oz)

Most adults walk around with some level of dehydration.  Low level dehydration can result in many ill-effects,

including muscle and joint pain (including the spine), increased blood pressure, increased risk for injury, increased risk of urinary-tract infections, and more!  While wearing face coverings, the need for proper hydration increases even more due to increased body temperature.  Water breaks are a great way to change up the day and keep the family well-hydrated!

Chiropractic care for kids… safe and effective!

At no stage in life is the body enduring more change than during growth and adolescence!   Physical and developmental changes are at their peak from birth through puberty.  The body is constantly replicating cells to grow and adapt preparing for adulthood.  You may notice that your child is very clumsy for a period of time- you know, that awkward puppy stage!  This is because the nervous system is trying to keep up with the changes within the body.  Since the spine houses the nervous system, why wouldn’t you want to ensure it’s functioning at its best!?

Chiropractic care is a safe and effective way to establish proper movement patterns and prevent structural imbalances at an early stage of life.  And it’s never too early!

Why is keeping a healthy spine so important?

As mentioned above, the spine has the very important job of being the literal back bone of the body!  Maintaining proper spinal alignment and strong postural muscles is essential for function.  The mechanics of the spine has a direct impact on how the body moves… and how the nerves communicate with the rest of the body.  Chiropractic is the best way to ensure everything is moving and communicating well.  Call to schedule your child’s first visit today!

Success Story: “I didn’t win the contest, but I still WON!”

Twenty years ago Kristin Russo’s world changed forever.

“I was working as a security guard and my life’s dream was to become a police officer. That all changed in an instant, and I found myself in unfamiliar waters.” says the soft-spoken 47 year old, her brown eyes gazing downward. In her late twenties, Kristin was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) an auto-immune illness that attacks the joints, causing pain, swelling and stiffness throughout the body. Progressive in nature, if left untreated, RA can create permanent joint damage, making it difficult to perform even the simplest of tasks. Often times, those affected with this debilitating and painful illness are unable to physically care for themselves or live independently.

“I was in constant pain physically, but it was also emotionally devastating.

Everything I had planned for my future was in question. I grew up in a household where hard work was part of what defined you.  My parents set a wonderful example. Their work ethic rubbed off on me, so when I was diagnosed with RA and my doctor told me there eventually would come a day when I wouldn’t be able to work anymore, I had no idea what my new normal was going to be. How would I define myself now if I didn’t have a career? I felt lost, helpless and hopeless…. and depression set in.”

Deterred but determined, Kristin was very proactive in working with her team of doctors, where they created a plan to help manage her RA with medication, which eventually enabled her to work part-time and maintain a quality of life that kept her busy, but not fulfilled. “I was working and socializing, but there was still a piece of the puzzle missing. I remember looking for something on the internet one night and an ad kept popping up to win a free massage at Body Logic. I never win anything so I didn’t even bother to enter, however I did call them to set up an appointment with a chiropractor, something my doctors and I had discussed. I made an appointment with Dr. Scott Kuper. I remember being slightly nervous on the drive over and not really knowing what to expect. The moment I walked through the door I felt a sense of peace and calm. There were smiling faces to greet me and the wonderful scent of lavender and peppermint. It was a far cry from some of the other offices I had been in. It was serene, not sterile. I knew this was a place where I could feel safe. The energy is so positive.”

“I met with Dr. Scott and he asked me questions, not just about my physical health, but about how this illness was affecting me emotionally.

He sat with me for as long as I wanted to talk before-  as well as after – my exam. He also educated me and gave me advice and explained everything about my  exam in terms I understood. I didn’t feel like I had to go and google everything after I left!” says Russo, shaking her head and smiling.  After her initial and follow-up exams, Dr. Scott and Kristin came up with a plan that was specific to her condition, customizing a routine that included regular chiropractic visits and massages along with stretches and exercises she could do at home. He also recommended she see Dr. Amanda Meyers-Kuper for nutrition counseling. “That was a game changer for me!” says Russo, her eyes sparkling with excitement. “Dr. Amanda and I talked about a nutrition plan combined with supplements that would work in conjunction with my medications and the chiropractic program Dr. Scott had devised.  It was a light-bulb moment for me. I realized how a comprehensive approach to total health and making lifestyle changes could lead to the quality of life I thought I had lost forever. For the first time I believed there was hope that I could not just survive, but thrive!”

And she has indeed thrived!

Kristin discovered a passion for cooking, using recipes from the nutrition plan she and Dr. Amanda created. Kristin’s eyes come alive with excitement as she talks about her newfound love of creating healthy meals. “I absolutely love to cook! I find myself spending hours looking up gluten free recipes along with creating my own. I enjoy doing it for myself and sharing it with others.”

Kristin is enjoying life to the fullest thanks to a positive attitude and a care team of doctors and medical professionals. Life has new meaning. “But you know, that’s the thing about life. Sometimes you have to adjust your sails if your ship doesn’t come in, so that’s what I did. In fact, I just went on my very first cruise with my family. I couldn’t have done that without the help of Body Logic. I have to say, not winning that contest was a winning decision for me!”

What Happens If I’m in a Motor Vehicle Accident- Part 2

Where do I begin?

It happened.  The first step is to talk to the auto insurance company.  If you plan to utilize coverage for your medical bills related to the accident, you must create a claim.

If you are at-fault for the accident, it is important to find out if you have bodily injury coverage through your own insurance. Please note, coverage for medical care for the at-fault driver is not standard on an insurance policy.  We encourage everyone to review their policies to ensure the driver is protected and has coverage.

If the other party is at-fault, you need to acquire their insurance information.  Call and find out if a claim has already been filed or if you need to create one.  If the other driver does not have insurance, contact your auto insurance company.

Schedule an appointment.

If you are new to Body Logic or have not received care in the last 6-12 months, you will need to schedule a new patient appointment.  Please inform our receptionist that the reason you are seeking care is because of a motor vehicle accident.  We will provide instructions to help you be prepared for your upcoming appointment.

If you are a current patient at Body Logic, call and inform our office of the accident before your next appointment.  Our doctors need enough time in the first appointment after the accident to perform an examination.  We want to ensure you receive the necessary attention.  And we do not want to disrupt other patients’ care.

After you have scheduled an appointment, we will email you a link to fill out an intake form.  There are special instructions to ensure the intake form is filled out properly for an auto-injury.  Following these instructions is essential for us to collect the appropriate information to best support your case.

What information do I need ready to provide?

We understand it can be overwhelming after being in a car accident.  Providing as much information as possible will help the process go smoothly.  The following information is needed for our office to file your medical bills properly:

  • Auto insurance information of the party responsible for paying your medical bills
  • Claim number
  • Claim adjuster’s name and contact information
  • Attorney’s name and contact information, if legal action is being taken
  • Health insurance information
    • If Body Logic is in-network with your health insurance, we are required to file claims through them first.

What paperwork do I need to fill out?

Once at the office for your appointment, there are a handful of additional forms that need to be completed.  Please allot an extra 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment to complete the following paperwork:

  • Motor Vehicle Accident Information Form
  • Authorization Request to Receive and Release Records
  • Patient Record Access Permission
  • Consent to Treatment
  • Financial Policy Agreement
  • Irrevocable Lien
  • Assignment of Benefits
  • HIPAA Notice of Privacy

Start Feeling Better!

Once the initial examination and paperwork is completed, it’s time to focus on you!  The doctors will create a treatment plan tailored to your personal condition and situation.  Treatment will include a number of different modalities, such as electrical muscle stimulation or stretches and exercises, and adjustments.  Appointment frequency is based on the doctors recommendations.  Periodically, a progress examination will be performed.  The assessment provides objective information regarding your condition and the progress of healing.  This takes time.  Refer to the prior motor vehicle accident article to review the stages of healing after trauma.  We will work together as a team to provide the best care possible as your body heals.   It is our goal to reduce pain and restore function to the body.

Now What?

Once your body has reached what’s called “maximum clinical improvement” treatment ends- related to the motor vehicle accident.  The doctors complete and compile all the clinical notes related to your case.  The additional paperwork is gathered and an invoice is printed.  The paperwork is then forwarded to either your attorney, if there is litigation involved, or the insurance company responsible for paying.  And we wait for the claim to be processed.

Whether or not you were a patient prior to the accident, we always recommend you continue with chiropractic care to maintain your spinal health and integrity.  Just like going to the dentist to ensure your teeth are healthy, visiting your chiropractor to ensure your spine is healthy is important for overall health.  At Body Logic, we enjoy long-term relationships with our patients to help them move better, feel better, and live better!

What Happens If I’m in a Motor Vehicle Accident- Part 1

It can happen…  You’re sitting at a red light and suddenly the car behind you rear-ends your vehicle.  Or you’re on the highway and a car cuts you off and brakes suddenly, and you’re not able to brake in time.  Or you’re driving on a back country road and the driver coming from the other direction veers into your lane putting you in a ditch to avoid a head-on collision.  It happens.  But you don’t have to suffer for it!

Dr. Amanda was recently in a car accident- and thankfully walked away with the primary damage endured by the car.  However, the physical response to injury was impactful on daily life.  And dealing with the insurance company brought light to the challenge it can be to navigate coverage, benefits, and how it applies to you and your situation.

In an effort to help others, we’re putting together a two-part series of articles to provide insight and advice when you’ve been involved with a motor vehicle accident.  This article will discuss the physical effects that can happen after being in an accident.  Next month’s article will discuss the ins and outs of getting your insurance questions answered.

It happened.

The car accident you weren’t expecting.  Your immediate reaction is to assess the physical condition of yourself, the people in the car, and the car itself.   Adrenaline is pumping causing your senses to be heightened and pain to be suppressed.  If you are severely or critically injured, you’ll be taken by ambulance to the ER.  If you’re injuries are considered “minior,” you’ll most likely be sent home and told to follow up with your physician should any concerns arise.  And now your head is spinning while you’re calling the insurance company. And you’re starting to feel a discomfort… or maybe it’s just the stress?

No matter how small the impact, a motor vehicle accident results in physical injuries to the body.  In serious collisions, life-threatening injuries may be present and addressed at the ER.  However, non-life threatening and non-visible injuries may not be addressed in an emergency situation.  Sometimes the symptoms don’t arise at the initial examination.  Or even until years later!  The delayed manifestation of symptoms is related to the phases of healing… and why it is very important to receive appropriate treatment after an enduring an accident.

The 3 Phases of Healing…

The Reaction Phase occurs in the first 24-72 hours after injury.  The area of injury has a traumatic response including swelling, muscle spasm, and pain and/or guarding.  For serious injuries, these symptoms take place immediately.  Your body is warning you that “something is wrong.”  And it prevents you from further aggravating it by eliciting such symptoms.  In a less traumatic car accident, the symptoms can take up to 48-72 hours to appear.  In these cases, the symptoms are often viewed as less dramatic and are often ignored.  You should never ignore symptoms or changes your body experiences after a motor vehicle accident.  Just because the ER cleared you, does not mean you’re free and clear from all injury.

The Regeneration Phase occurs next as the body lays down new tissue in and around the injured areas.  This phase typically lasts 6-8 weeks.  Depending on the area impacted, scar tissue development can interfere with normal movement patterns.  Even the smallest of changes in proper mechanics, especially in the spine, can lead to long-term dysfunction.  It is essential to address the mechanical changes early to prevent more challenging issues in the future.

The Remodeling Phase lasts the longest, anywhere from 3 to 12 months.  And it can be the most challenging phase.  The tissue is not yet fully repaired at this time.  Reestablishing proper function takes much longer to accomplish than simple pain reduction.  Don’t be fooled by a lack of pain, healing is still taking place for up to a year, or even longer, after a motor vehicle accident.

Why it’s important to seek chiropractic care…

Whether your car accident was yesterday or a few years ago, you should… With a focus on function related to musculoskeletal health, chiropractic care is an ideal treatment option after a motor vehicle accident.  Not only can treatment be provided, chiropractors are trained to identify when referring to another healthcare provider is necessary.  Benefits of seeking chiropractic care include:

  • pain reduction
  • improved range of motion
  • minimizing scar tissue development
  • restoration of faulty mechanics
  • improved nervous system communication
  • strengthening and prevention of future injury to the affected area
  • guidance and referral when necessary

The take-home message…

A motor vehicle accident is traumatic to the body, no matter how big or small the impact may be.  The signs and symptoms of injury might not happen instantly.  It’s important to have a chiropractic examination to assess the body’s condition.  The consultation and examination provide insight as to the the best course of treatment.  Even if an accident occurred “a long time ago,” it is encouraged to seek chiropractic care.  The body is amazing and will adapt as long as it can.  Unfortunately, the adaptations aren’t always in the best interest of your musculoskeletal health.  We can help you move better, feel better, and live better!

Check out next month’s article that will discuss insurance-related questions regarding a motor vehicle accident.

Scoliosis- What You Need to Know!

June is Scoliosis Awareness Month.  It’s likely you’ve heard the word “scoliosis” to describe someone’s posture or diagnosed condition.  But do you really know what that means??  Do you have a scoliosis?  Is your child developing a scoliosis?  Here are some basics to help you understand the condition better and when to seek care.

What is Scoliosis?

Scoliosis is an abnormal lateral curvature of the spine.  The lateral curvature can happen in different areas of the spine, including more than one area.  Small curvatures may go unnoticed if they barely impact the movement patterns of the spine.  Larger curvatures, however, can result in more noticeable, and sometimes painful, changes.

What are symptoms of Scoliosis?

Symptoms of scoliosis are often dependent on the severity of the curve (see below).  Here is a list of potential symptoms:

  • One shoulder blade higher than the other
  • A shoulder blade that sticks out more than the other
  • The appearance that the head is not centered with the rest of the body
  • The appearance that one shoulder is higher than the other
  • Uneven hips or one hip sticking out more than the other
  • A rotated spine
  • Pushed out ribs
  • Difficulty breathing due to a reduced available area for lung expansion
  • Back pain and discomfort
  • Arms not hanging down straight next to the body
  • When bending forward, the appearance that the two sides of the back are different heights

How is Scoliosis diagnosed?

Scoliosis is most often diagnosed in early childhood.  However, it is possible that a scoliosis develops later in life.  There is a test named “Adam’s forward bend test” that is performed by a nurse or doctor as a screening tool.  A scoliosis diagnosis is confirmed by x-ray.  If there is a curvature of 10° or larger, it can be labeled as scoliosis.  The severity of the condition is based on the curvature measurement.

  • mild curve is less than 20 degrees.
  • moderate curve is between 25 degrees and 40 degrees.
  • severe curve is more than 50 degrees.

What causes Scoliosis?

There are various reasons for a scoliosis to develop, most often affecting children.  Two to three percent of the US population is impacted.  The different types of scoliosis can help determine treatment needs.

Idiopathic Scoliosis- The cause of the most common form of scoliosis, idiopathic scoliosis, is unknown.  The majority of diagnoses occurs between the age of 10 and adulthood.  Chiropractic care is a very effective form of treatment for both pain management and preventing progression of the curvature.  Restoring proper vertebral movement (chiropractic adjustment), improving posture and back muscle strength (stretches/exercises), and maintaining proper nutritional health can all have very positive impacts on the symptoms associated with scoliosis.

Congenital Scoliosis- Congenital scoliosis means the patient was born with the condition.  This most often happens when the baby is developing in utero.  A vertebrae in the spine may be misshaped, missing, or even fused to another bone.  Congenital scoliosis can have more severe curvatures resulting in rib pain and breathing difficulties.  Other health problems may be associated as well, including heart and kidney concerns.  Chiropractic care can be very effective to help manage the symptoms associated with congenital scoliosis.

Neuromuscular Scoliosis- Neuromuscular scoliosis is caused by any medical condition that affects the muscles and nerves.  Muscle weakness and imbalances are often the cause.  Cerebral palsy, spina bifida, and muscular dystrophy are examples of medical conditions tassociated.  Chiropractic care can assist in the management of symptoms associated with neuromuscular conditions in conjunction with other physicians.

What are additional treatment options?

It is important to seek proper treatment advice when scoliosis is diagnosed.  At-home care consists of regular stretching and exercising, proper nutrition, and adequate sleep.  Chiropractic care and massage therapy reduce muscle tension and improve spinal movement.  Maintaining proper mechanics is extremely helpful in preventing additional pain and irritation to the spine.

If early detection finds a moderate to severe scoliosis, a back brace may be recommended to prevent further progression of the curve.  And some curvatures are severe enough that surgical intervention is necessary.  It is important to discuss any concerns with your primary care physician and doctor of chiropractic.  Early detection and treatment is key to preventing long-term complications.

Suspicious of scoliosis impacting a loved one?  Already diagnosed with scoliosis?  Call or contact Body Logic today for evaluation and treatment options!

May 2020 Highlights at Body Logic

Happy May to our wonderful community!  The Earth is changing and preparing for the growing season ahead of us.  While our neighbors to the north experienced some extra snow in spring, Virginia Beach is blooming and ready for summer.  We truly wish everyone health and happiness as the world is still in a state of confusion and concern regarding COVID-19.  We count our blessings daily as our staff has continued to remain healthy and have not come in any known contact with the virus.  Here are a couple of updates about Body Logic… some of which are subject to change based on Virginia’s journey to reopening.

Happy Mother’s Day!

We want to wish everyone filling the “mom” role a very Happy Mother’s Day!!  One of the positive realizations during the pandemic has been a greater appreciation for the patience, compassion, and selflessness that moms can exhibit even in the most chaotic of times.  Typically, this is a time of year we promote our massage gift certificate sales – the gift of quiet, calm, and comfort can be a true blessing for mom!  Although we aren’t providing massages at this time, we are running our annual sale of $10 OFF 60-minute massages and $15 OFF 90-minute massages.  Gift certificates can be purchased online at sale price by using promo codes “10$offMD” and “15$offMD” respectively.  Simply enter the code when viewing the cart to receive your discount!  We will keep everyone updated as to when massage gift certificates can be used again…

Massage is still on hold.

We appreciate everyone’s patience as we continue to wait for the green light to begin massage services again.  We understand many of you are anxious to return to the table, but we must adhere to state guidelines to ensure the safety of our community.  Thankfully, we have high cleanliness standards including washing all sheets and face cradle covers after each massage.  We also use and diffuse immune-boosting essential oils in the office and in treatment rooms throughout the day.  We look forward to having our massage therapists back in action, helping our community relieve their mental, emotional, and physical stresses that have been building up for the last 6 weeks.  In the mean time, we will continue to…

Keep it clean while providing chiropractic care.

The enthusiastic “thank you for being here!” comments from our patients have made the challenges during this crazy time seem minimal.  It has truly been our pleasure to continue serving the community.  By modifying our hours, adapting our reception area and check-in procedures, and cleaning high touch-points and our tables between every patient, Body Logic remains committed to your health.  We are now equipped with face coverings that can be worn in the treatment room as per patient request.  We are here for you and your spinal and joint health needs!  Looking for at-home healthy options…

Check out our other health resources!

The pandemic has brought light to the fact that we at Body Logic haven’t been sharing our other health resources as much as we could or should!  As we continue to adapt to whatever the “new normal” will be, it is our mission to bring more attention to the self-care tools we have available for the community.

To start, did you know we have TENs units, foam rollers, pillows, and more available for purchase?!   Just ask!  Our doctors work hard daily providing hands-on care for our patients- why not help yourself at home?!  As social distancing restrictions lighten, we plan to better utilize our gym/meeting space to provide increased exposure and trial use to products that can help you at home.  Watch for changes occurring over the next couple months!

How about our love for doTERRA essential oils?!  We’ve provided various essential oil recipes over the last 6-8 weeks on our social media (@BodyLogicVB).  We have realized that there are a lot of oils in the office ready to be sold!  Please ask the front desk for a list of oils available!  Moving forward, we will be reducing our in-office inventory.  The focus will be on oils used to support a healthy musculoskeletal system along with a few standard, everyday-use oils.  Click here to browse and purchase online!  If you have any questions, our beloved doTERRA expert, Vicki Fersch, RN, is available for consult.

And we can’t forget about our Standard Process supplements!  We will also be narrowing down a focus of supplements available in the office- they’re just too good to not have available.  You have access to purchasing their products online by going to StandardProcess.com and clicking on Patient Direct.  Click “register” under patient and enter Body Logic’s office code (57FQR9) to request permission to order online.  Not all supplements are created equal- we trust this company and know you are getting what you pay for!

Closed for Memorial Day

The schedules have been crazy and we don’t know what each day will bring.  But that doesn’t change our appreciation for all the men and women that have sacrificed and served our fine country- WE ARE GRATEFUL!  Body Logic will be closed on Monday, May 25th in observance of Memorial Day.  Take a moment and reflect on the beauty and safety that surrounds us.  It has taken many people, past and present, to provide that for us as Americans.  Thank you for your service.

Immune Support: Self-care and Prevention Tips!

Have you ever noticed that some people are more prone to getting sick than others?  Have you ever heard someone say ‘If I get sick, It’s going to turn into bronchitis?’  Have you ever asked yourself “WHY?”

While the world continues to live in fear of the COVID-19 pandemic, this is the best time to look in the mirror and ask yourself “What can I control?”

You Can Control Taking Care of You!

Lifestyle choices have an incredible impact on the strength of your immune system.  And the strength of your immune system directly impacts how well your body can fight illness, including illnesses caused by viruses.

Lifestyle choices that support a healthy, strong immune system include:

  1. Eat a diet rich with fruits, vegetables, and healthy proteins!  Foods with fewer ingredients on the food label are typically good choices.  Shopping the perimeter of the store is your best bet to avoid foods full of preservatives and chemicals.  The less work it takes for your body to digest it’s food, the better!
  2. Avoid sugar!!  We’re stressed out, staying home, and bored… typically the perfect combination for a nice sugary treat.  BUT that’s not the best for your immune system!  Consistent high sugar intake causes inflammation in the body.  And the combination of sugar and inflammation leads to other disease processes such as heart disease and Diabetes, which does NOT naturally support a strong immune system.
  3. Drink water… and lots of it!  You’re stuck in the house right now, no complaining about the numbers of times you’re hitting the bathroom.  Click here to learn why water is so important.  There’s a reason why you hear it from our doctors and massage therapists ALL the time!
  4. Stay active! Increasing blood circulation throughout the body helps on so many levels- from helping circulate nutrients around the body to supporting the elimination of toxins and waste out of the body.  Exercising the heart, our most important muscle, strengthens it to withstand other health challenges.  Endorphins are released from the brain with physical activity, helping reduce stress levels.  And there are many more reasons…
  5. Rest and maintain a healthy sleep schedule!  The body requires down time in order to heal and recover from the previous days activities.  This is particularly true when you are under additional mental and emotional stress.  The better we sleep, the stronger the immune system.  Click here to learn more.  There’s no better time than now to catch up on those extra Zzzzzz’s as the world hunkers down to be safe.

Other Resources for Immune Support

Wouldn’t it be great if simply following the above recommendations resulted in super-human immune system strength??  But that’s not always the case.  Stress is one of the biggest challenges we face when trying to maintain or improve the immune system.

Let Standard Process supplement the vitamins and minerals you need!

Standard Process Whole Food Nutrient Solutions provide the best quality vitamins and minerals that the body can readily use.  With their various combination of nutrients and variety of products, there’s something for everyone!  Specifically designed products for immune support are available.  For general health needs, we use a Systems Survey.  Based on the results of the survey we are able to narrow down recommended products on an individual basis.  Dr. Amanda is offering to review your systems survey for FREE To facilitate access to these high quality supplements.  Simply fill out the Systems Survey and drop it off or email it to frontdesk@bodylogicvb.com.  Please include your name and contact information so we can contact you directly!  We carry many products in the office.  And there is access to even more through ordering online.  NOTE: these products are physician-regulated and should not be purchased through Amazon or other re-sellers to ensure you are getting the product you wish to purchase.

The power of the Chiropractic Adjustment

Using the chiropractic adjustment, we support the things you can control!  Maintaining spinal alignment and mobility often results in better sleep quality.  There is also endorphin release and stress reduction immediately following your adjustment.  Besides pain reduction, there’s good reason you simply feel better after getting adjusting!  Our doctors are also great accountability partners, helping patients achieve different lifestyle goals on a daily basis.  We help people move better, feel better, and live better!

The need for mental and emotional support during this time…

The current state of the world can be challenging for many different reasons.  No matter what hat you wear in life (sometimes many different hats!), it helps to surround yourself with quality support systems.   As a mom, wife, doctor, business owner, and more, Dr. Amanda understands the importance of having that those support systems in place.  Here are two local resources she uses and highly recommends:

Arnel Tanyag with Tanyag and Company. Dr. Amanda has been utilizing Arnel’s services as a business adviser for nearly 10 years.  He has been instrumental in establishing policies and procedures to support Body Logic as a business, while maintaining the mission and vision that is the backbone of Body Logic.

Mary Holt with All Things Possible.  Dr. Amanda has worked with Mary intermittently for the last 10 years.  Mary’s background includes helping individuals in both the personal and professional settings.  As your “accountability partner,” Mary works with you to help achieve your goals through an objective and healthy perspective.
