Reducing Toxins in Your Home with Essential Oils

When our grandparents were coming of age, we didn’t have to worry as much about our toxic load. We ate cleaner food, we drank more water, and the ‘chemicals of convenience,’ such as drive through containers and plastic bottles were not something we needed be concerned with. Now it seems that everything about our life has some type of toxic element that we need to negate. However, we have to do it! Our bodies’ health depends on us watching and reducing the amount of chemicals that we absorb into them.

We take into consideration what we put in our bodies now pretty regularly. There are many bad chemicals that we can absorb via our food and water. But those sources aren’t the only ones that we have to be concerned with. Have you peeked under your kitchen and bathroom sinks recently and really taken a good look at what is in your cleaning products? How about your health and beauty products? Now, look at what you use for your laundry. It is scary just how many chemicals are hiding in our homes that we never really even think about!

Cleaning products- No matter how many times a week we clean, the products that we use still expose us to unnecessary toxins. Even if we never get a drop of it on our skin, we are still breathing in the chemicals into our lungs. For babies, small animals, and older populations, this is even more taxing as their bodies cannot process the intake as well as the average human- which still isn’t very well.

For premade cleaning solution, we use doTERRA’s On Guard Cleaning concentrate; however, you can also make safer cleaning options out of essential oils that you have at home. Pour ¼ to a ½ cup white vinegar in a spray bottle with 2 tablespoons of baking soda. Add a few drops of orange essential oil and then fill the bottle to the top with water. Shake before each use to mix.

Health and Beauty- We also have to mindful of the things that we put on our body. Your skin is the largest organ of the body and yet we often pick shampoos, cleaners, and moisturizers off the shelf without researching the ingredients. When picking out health and beauty products, be sure to go for the one with the least amount of ingredients that you cannot pronounce because just like when you are picking foods, if you cannot pronounce it, it isn’t from nature. Essential oil based options do the same thing as the chemical versions, naturally. Want to have shinier, longer hair? Add a few drops of rosemary oil to your natural shampoo. Working through a breakout? Use patchouli oil to help remove toxins and dirt from pimples for proper healing. Scarring? Use frankincense or lavender instead of synthetic creams for faster healing.

Making a few changes to the products that you use in your home every day can have a huge impact on how you feel and the health that you carry with you for the rest of your life.
